Vistar PC Setup (Windows 7)

This document is a guideline for installing Vision Star applications and cannot cover all issues encountered.  If Windows 7 is still setup with defaults for editing system files and not displaying file extensions, you need to rely on your skills to work thru the install.  The Oracle Client and configuration file setup is only required to be completed once.

  1. Install Oracle 6 Client.  In the Oracle_Client folder, execute setup.exe.  Use these suggestions for the install.  Select “typical” install and “default” for oracle home.
  1. User Name – <USER>
  2. Organization – <EOA>
  3. Vistar server – <IP address of lms server>
  4. Database name – <dbSID.WORLD>
  5. After Oracle 6 Client installs, close any pop-ups, ignore any errors and click application installed normally.

  1. Install Oracle 8 Client.  In the Oracle_Client folder, execute Patch-3a.exe.   Set unzip location to C:\orant\temp.  Click the <unzip> button.  After it unzips, navigate to C:\orant\temp and double click on the setup.exe to install the patch.  Again, use the above suggestions and accept defaults where possible.  After Oracle 8 Client installs, close any pop-ups, ignore any errors and click application installed normally if prompted.

  1. Copy these files from the Oracle_Client folder.  Check and modify both files, if necessary, for correct server IPs.
  1. Copy file  tnsnames.ora  to  c:\orant\net80\admin\tnsnames.ora   (overwrite existing)
  2. Copy file  vistar.ini  to  c:\windows\vistar.ini   (overwrite existing)

  7. A window should pop up saying “Registration Successful”.
  8. Exit the DOS shell.
